10 Tips to stay healthy in Ramadan

Eating healthy will give you enough energy to perform different kinds of worship without feeling overloaded or lazy, and of course it will make your body have maximum benefits from fasting that we illustrated in Reality of fasting.

Always keep in mind that fasting is very beneficial to your body. So if you feel lazy or tired during fasting or after breaking your fasting, then you are not fasting the right way. We will share with you some tips that will help you stay healthy.

  1. Ask the help of Allah 

Seek the help of Allah. Without seeking his help you want go anywhere. In order to stay healthy and take thawab, make your intension that you will stay healthy because this will help you worship Allah in a better way. And always remember what Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:“A believer who is strong (and healthy) is better and dearer to Allah than the weak believer, but there is goodness in both of them. Be keen on what benefits you and seek help from Allah, and do not give up. If anything afflicts you do not say, ‘If I had done such and such things, such and such would have happened.’ But say, ‘Allah decrees and what He wills He does,’ for (the utterance) ‘If I had’ provides an opening for the deeds of the devil.” (Related by Muslim.)

  1. Never miss sohour

Sohour is a very important meal, as it gives you energy throughout the day. If you eat sohour the right way, you will not be tired while fasting. It is also a sunnah of the prophet, Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah () said, “Eat Suhur (predawn meal). Surely, there is a blessing in Sohour.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

The prophet peace be upon him informed us that the best time to have sohour in right before the Fajr, It was narrated that Abu ‘Atiyyah said:“I said to ‘Aishah: ‘Among us there are two of the Companions of the Prophet, one of whom hastens Iftar and delays Sahur, and the other delays Iftar and hastens Sahur.’ She said: ‘Which of them is the one who hastens Ifar and delays Sahur?‘ I said: “Abdullah bin Masud.’ She said: ‘That is what the Messenger of Allah used to do.”‘ (sahih)

Eat seven dates on sohour, it will give you energy throughout the day, and it is also a sunnah. Eat cucumber, bananas or yogurt because they preserve water in your body so you will not feel thirsty throughout the day. Try to eat something that takes time to be digested like oats or beans.

  1. Don’t eat iftar right after the Maghreb Adhan, pray first

Eating your food right after Maghreb will not allow your body to digest properly. Besides it will make you gain weight because your stomach hasn’t been digesting anything for 15 or 16 hours and then you are surprising it by large portions of food, this is what sumo wrestlers do to gain weight.

Instead break your fasting with dates (1, 3 or 5) which is a Sunnah, Anas Ibn Maalik said: “The prophet (S) used to break his fast with fresh dates before he prayed. If he did not find fresh dates then he would use dried dates. If he did not find that also he drank a few sips of water. (Ahmad and Abu Dawood) and then pray Maghreb, after you finish praying start eating your meal. This will allow your body to understand that you will give it food and so it will be prepared to digest it. Also it will give your brain some time to notice that your body will be nourished now so it won’t crave anything.

  1. Don’t drink sugary juices drink water instead

Sugary juices contain a lot of artificial sugar which will not benefit your body. It will only make you gain fats and increase your weight. A much healthier option is drinking water it will keep you hydrated with zero calories.

  1. Eat natural sugar dates and fruits and avoid artificial sugar

moreover, regarding your sugar intake, don’t eat sugary desserts for the same reasons as the sugary juices. Instead eat dates and fruits. Your body absorbs natural sugar better than artificial sugar, and it doesn’t change it to unhealthy fats.

  1. Don’t eat high carbohydrate food

Carbohydrates is not your enemy, on the contrary it gives you energy and makes you feel satisfied after you eat. But of course artificial carbohydrates like fries or any fried food is very unhealthy because it will develop into fats. Your carbohydrates intake should be from fruits, potatoes, oats or any natural food that has high carbohydrate level.

  1. After taraweeh eat fruits, it is more healthy

Normally after taraweeh you will be hungry. Instead of eating anything in front of you, eat fruits. It is normal that after fasting you crave sugar because your sugar level lowers during fasting. If you eat enough sugar between Maghreb and Fajr this will make your sugar level high during fasting. Always make sure that your sugar intake comes from fruits and natural sugar. Also fruits are full of water, this will help you during fasting.

  1. Drink plenty of water between iftar and sohour

The normal body needs three liters of water every day as 75% of our bodies is water. If you didn’t drink water, you will be dehydrated and thirsty during the day and also it may affect your kidney on the long run. So make sure you drink plenty of water.

  1. Do a light exercises at home

Do any light exercise just to activate your blood circulation system. If you don’t like excersing, do light exercises after iftar. you can find many exercises on YouTube. And If you love exercising, do an intensive exercise after iftar. If You are strong enough to exercise before iftar go for it but make sure you drink enough water after iftar.

  1. Don’t fill your stomache

This is one Sunnah that people normally forget. Miqdam bin Madikarib said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him say: ‘A human being fills no worse vessel than his stomach. It is sufficient for a human being to eat a few mouthfuls to keep his spine straight. But if he must (fill it), then one third of food, one third for drink and one third for air.’”(sahih). Don’t fill your stomach until you can’t breathe, because this will make you un-able to perform prayer or any type of worship properly. Eat what is sufficient to you without exceeding.
