Ramadan has passed. We have to sit by ourselves and answer the question “what will we do after Ramadan?”
Set post Ramadan resolutions for what you want to achieve through the year. Write down what you asked Allah in this Ramadan, and try to achieve it through the year. Think about what you wanted last Ramadan, and how did you try to achieve it.
Think about the habits that you wanted to give up. Have you really tried to give it up or you just surrendered? Think about the habits that you want to remove from your routine this year. And what you will do to remove it.
Think about your personality, and what you tried to change in it and have you succeeded or not? Have you read enough books throughout the year and what are the books that you want to read this year?? Is your personality changed from the previous Ramadan to this Ramadan? Was this change for the better or for the worse? Think about what you will do to develop your personality this year.
Think about your social life and your relationship with the people around you. In each relationship, what do you like in it and what do you hate?? And the things you hated, how are you going to change it. Your relationship with your sibling. Think about what you hate in it to change it and what you like in it to work on keeping it.
Think about your worship, was it sincere? What is the worship that you were doing during Ramadan and you will continue doing after Ramadan? From the signs of accepting your worship in Ramadan is increasing your worship after Ramadan. Find the thing that you gained from Ramadan. And keep it till the next Ramadan.
And of course don’t forget fasting the six days of Shawwal. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him said, “He who observes As-Saum (the fasts) in the month of Ramadan, and also observes As-Saum for six days in the month of Shawwal, it is as if he has observed As-Saum for the whole year.”[Muslim].
Ramadan shouldn’t be the month that comes and goes without affecting you. Ramadan should be the month when you think about your life. Revise your life. Focus on your relationship with Allah, improve yourself. Seek the help of Allah to do that and check yourself next Ramadan.
