Takbeer in Eidul Fitr:
Takbeer is the first sunnah of Eidul Fitr. It is recited in the night of the Eid. From the Maghreb of the last day of Ramadan until the emam leads the Eid prayer.
The form of the Takbeer is: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allah, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, wa Lillaahi’l-hamd (Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god except Allah, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great , Allah is Most Great, and all praise be to Allah).
Raising your voice during Takbeer is a sunnah for men. And it is not allowed for women as they should recite in a low voice.
Doing ghusl, wearing new clothes, perfuming:
Doing ghusl before the Eid prayer is a Sunnah. Abdullah ibn Umar used to do ghusl on the day of Fitr before going to the place of prayer.
Also wearing new clothes or beautiful clothes. Wearing perfume for men is a Sunnah but not permissible for women to wear beautiful clothes or perfume. Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: “Umar bought a silk cloak from the market, took it to Allah’s Messenger and said. “O Allah’s Messenger!. Take it and adorn yourself with it during the Eid and when the delegations visit you.”
Allah’s Messenger replied, “This dress is for those who have no share (in the Hereafter)”. After a long period Allah’s Messenger sent to `Umar a cloak of silk brocade. Umar came to Allah’s Messenger with the cloak and said, “O Allah’s Messenger! You said that this dress was for those who had no share (in the Hereafter); yet you have sent me this cloak. “Allah’s Messenger said to him, “Sell it and fulfill your needs by it”. This Hadith shows that wearing beautiful clothes was one from their traditions.
People will greet each other in Eid so this is why they should look nice and clean and smell nice
Having breakfast before praying:
Eating an odd number of dates before going out to Eid prayer is a Sunnah. No one fasts during the first day of Eid as it is haram. Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah’s Messenger never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of Eid ul Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. Anas also narrated: The Prophet used to eat an odd number of dates.
The Eid prayer should be performed in a large open place that can accommodate all the Muslims in every city, or two places if the number of the Muslims is huge. The point is the number of places should be as few as possible. The reason for that to gather all the Muslims in one place to celebrate the Eid with each other, greet each other. And meet all people that you haven’t seen during the year.
It should be performed in an open space. But if this is not an option, it is permissible to be performed in the masjid.
It was narrated by Abu saied Alkhudary: The Messenger of Allah used to go out to the prayer place on the day of Al-Fitr and the day of Al-Adha and lead the people in prayer.
When he sat during the second rak’ah and said the taslim, he stood up and turned to face the people while the people were sitting. If he needed to mention something concerning the dispatch of an army he would tell the people, otherwise he would enjoin the people to give charity. He said: “Give charity” three times, and among those who gave the most charity were the women.
All people should go out to pray Eid including children and women even the menstruating women but they should keep away from the prayer place itself.
The prayer consists of 2 rakaas, the First one includes seven takbirat (Allahu Akbar) and the second one includes five. It was narrated that the Prophet said the Takbir seven times and five times in the ‘Eid prayer.
Going from one route, returning from another:
So that you may see different persons in this other route than the persons he had seen on the first route. On the Day of Eid the Prophet used to return (after offering the Eid prayer) through a way different from that by which he went.
Walking to the Eid prayer is recommended. Ali bin Abi Talib narrated: “It is from the SUnnah to leave for the Eid walking, and to eat something before leaving.”
If the prayer place is far from your home, it is ok to drive in.
We should celebrate Eid with happiness and joy. Our children should love the Eid. For them wearing new clothes, giving them a new toy will make so much difference.
When we stop celebrating Eid as the prophet told us, we will find ourselves celebrating the non-Muslims festivals instead which is not permissible.
May Allah’s blessings be showered on you on this Eid, Eid Fitr Mubarak everyone.
